But I used to be the only girl back then. ![]() The people there liked the fact that there was a girl skateboarding with them and they’re all my friends until this day. Isadora didn’t spend much time thinking about breaking down gender barriers but just followed her passion for skateboarding. At the the age of six, my coach organised a small competition at the inn and I took part. “ It all started on my doorstep, literally. It was then that she first met her coach, who trained with her all the way to the Olympics. And that’s when I started to practice,” she adds. It was all still made of plastic, but I loved it. “ On Children’s Day, which is when we get presents in Brazil, we went to a shopping center and I picked a skateboard as my present. ![]() “ I used to go to the beach with my parents and afterwards we went to see some of the best skaters in town flying through the air at the skate park at the inn. I really wanted to have a go as well,” Isadora remembers. It was there that she first fell in love with the sport. Isadora grew up near an inn which also had its own skate park. “Floripa”, as the locals call it, is well known for its surf spots and has always had a strong skateboarding culture. Isadora Pacheco, 16, was born in Florianopolis, a city in the south of Brazil famous for its 42 different beaches spread around a lush peninsula. As part of our “SHE MOVES US” series, CATch-Up caught up with Isadora to talk about her sport, her ambitions and how she inspired other girls to take up skateboarding as well. Ten years later, she competed on the world stage at the Olympic Games and she has helped make her sport popular in her home country, Brazil. PUMA athlete Isadora Pacheco was only 5 years old when she fell in love with skateboarding. Likely Donna was the honorific "Doña" and "Lola" appears to be a nickname. One obituary is transcribed "Mrs Donna Lola Malarin". Most were born in California aside from in-laws from Peru and Massachusetts and two near the end of the list from Portugal and China. There are 10 more Malarins, siblings of Mariano and their families. They list two daughters, Mariann (16) and Paula (14). She appears at age 51 as the wife of head of household Mariana (should be Mariano) Malarin (53) in a household of 20 people, probably probably just south of Mission Santa Clara and present-day Santa Clara University. The 1880 census is an interesting one for this person. She died in 1892 and is buried in the Royal Presidio Chapel at Monterey. She married Mariano Malarin and they had two daughters. Maria Isidora, or Lola, was born at the Presidio on Monterey in 1829, and baptized 2 days later.
